Got any tips? Black

Just obtained Black from an online source, and was wondering if anyone had any tips on playing?

The last version I played that was actually paid for was Pokemon Crystal, and since then I played the next generation emulated, and thats about it, so I've been out of the pokemon loop for quite a while. I started with Oshawott (I thought they all looked stupid so I made my fiancee decide lol)

How did you get Black, I'd also like White if it can be found. I got an emulator for Diamond and Pearl today, but all the ones after that I need. If you know where I can get them, that would be great.

then had to find some working Black and White roms.

I torrented these ones [English][Patched_ROM][www.consolas]Black & White Torrent and then had to follow these instructions to get them working.

I have already gotten past the second gym, so, so far, the game works fine

Good choice in any case, though all of the starters are mildly decent for the main game this time around...
As for tips... well, tips about what exactly...

Well is there anything I should look out for early in the game? (I found the person that gives you the elemental monkey based on your starter choice)

What was your other pokemon to use for combat? I'm training a black cat thing at the moment, can't remember the name right now, and a munna, but I catch anything I run in to. My Dewott is level 25 already, then my party is filled with level 10's

I used Samurott, Zoroark ( thanks HG event) two guys I imported, Axew (you'll need to backtrack) and Elektrik (you get these little guys in a lightning cave. Look for them in the basement; electrics w/ levitate rock)

Also, find a Munna in the area in the story they appear (you'll know it) they are good tanks and learn psybeam quickly, but otherwise have NO offensive attacks until lvl 50 psychic. Use Tms.
You can swap elektrik for the elec spider or the zebra thing (you'll see them) but I don't like them as much. Although the spider is badass.

Yeah I grabbed a Munna there, he just learnt psybeam actually. Thanks for warning me on basically needing TMs with him. I got that electric zebra guy, guess I'll pull him out of the pc.

One more thing- when you pick fossils (you do in every game) pick the Wing. The shell is some water turtle you don't need with Samurott. Wing has Archen, a badass little rock/flying archaeopteryx with a monstrous atk stat until it hits half health. I think it can fly after evolution.

Ah, thanks for the advice! Yeah, not interested in another water type, so I woulda been a little pissed off.

At least, due to my playing methods, I can actually "obtain" any pokemon I want/need lol

Isn't that a wonderful thing about emulators? Can you see if you can upload the ROM files you have into a folder and PM them to me?

If you're using the emulators, I can give you a nice, long list of awesome DS titles. TWEWY might seem weird at first, but it's still really good. And I'd give Radiant Historia a shot, L, since it's pretty much a homage to the 16-bit era of JRPGs with more time travel. As a FF/Chrono fan, I loved it.

I probably wont get to play them much, got a lot to do at the moment so I'm barely ever on the computer

Will keep it in mind, now, since we have to use the mouse for a stylus, make sure that all of these will be realistic to do so. I also plan on getting the Chrono Trigger revamp with the extra dungeons...I really need more hours in the day. I mostly do homework and go to classes, eat, and get an hour or so of games in a day, and having played Pokemon games and Chrono Trigger before, I know that this is going to be a long haul.

Well, TWEWY is mostly touch screen with the d-pad (presumably your w a s d keys) as controls, but in general it's just clicking and dragging stuff out of battle for menus and movement, and the battles aren't much worse, just avoid the VERY rare microphone-based attacks.
RH is almost all button controls, all touch screen controls optional. Just warning you though, it's very difficult to 100% without a guide, since there's a ton of sidequests to do and several of them are necessary for the best ending.

Don't use the monkey if you can avoid it. They aren't great.

Electross or Galvantula (you get them both in the same place) are much better than the Zebra.

Grass wise, most options are good. Lilligant and Leavanny are good options.
Fire, Darmatian is supposedly great but I've never used it. Chandlelier or whatever the ghost/fire is also really good.

Get rid of Purloin. Worthless thing sadly...

Honestly, there are plenty of good choices that should be apparent. I'd avoid the ice types though...

I think I'll stick with Pokemon, Chrono Trigger, and Zelda for now, but I'll keep them in mind.

Go for Phantom Hourglass; Spirit Tracks was very disappointing. and not in the fanboy "there's no epona!" way, the game was often boring and frustrating.

I already have Phantom Hourglass, and I know a few people who all think Spirit Tracks was great...probably going to skip that one though, again, not enough time...

My current six are:
Munna (LV 16)
Dewott (LV 25)
Lillipup (LV 11) {I love randomly getting free stuff lol}
Purrloin (LV 16)
Blitzle (LV 10)
Pidove (LV

I basically just switch out dewott every battle, use that to level up the others.

But I do have a question about levelling!

So, I have both a moon stone and fire stone, when do you recommend evolving Munna and Pansear? Are they worth evolving? And according the the poke wiki, the evolutions don't learn moves! I think thats wrong, but yeah

Okay, just started Black, got through the two fights with my friends, took the fire one. Seriously, snivy? That is the stupidest named and one of the dumbest looking Pokemon I have ever seen.

That's right. Don't evolve Munna until you like her moveset. Lillipup is okay, but I dislike it. Purloin sucks, Blitzle is inferior to electross and the spider thing, pidove is flat-out bad.

Okay cool, not evolving munna yet then!

Well I haven't run into the other electric types yet, so ill keep blitzle for now, but probably just focus on Munna and Dewott. The others are just so I have a full party

Just evolved my Munna at level 38, she learnt psychic already, the only other move from the standard moveset I wanted was dream eater, which is also a TM so yeah...

Okay, on route 1 heading towards the first town, I caught a patrat and lillipup, just thought I'd let you know.

I don't care what you guys said about the fossils, I'm so getting the turtle. I am a turtle addict and it look so awesome! I might have been looking through the Pokedex online a bit...okay a lot...some of them are plain sad though, seriously...

Yeah I've looked through the pokedex abit, but not too much. I don't like my Archeon (sp?) due to it's ability, wherein when HP is below half, attack drops as well. How sh*t!

I'm now in the first town with a gym, although I'm going to train outside of it a bit first so that I can get my Pokemon to higher levels. I think my fire pig is 11 or 12, and I'm going to get the others to at least 10. What kind of gym is it?

Yeah, that is his only ability. I mentioned that above. It's okay, because his evolved form has the highest ATk stat in the game.

As long as it's completely healthy at least...I still want the turtle, I play for fun, not to be amazing. I love me some turtle!

He was just the one that seemed cool, plus Denial already had the water one so I didn't want to copy him. Snivy is just such a stupid word, and I couldn't deal with that. Besides, the pig is cute, the water one is stuck up.

I didnt get that feeling at all. Snivy is supposed to look pompous, but -Wott just looks kinda dumb, only to turn almost cool as Dewott.
